The purpose of this book is to help the reader understand the significance of public education in alcohol and drug prevention and to encourage those involved in alcohol and drug prevention to leverage communications means and to develop their media savvy. Our main point is that public education does work and that research criticising public education is wrong.

We also seek to encourage exploration of new methods for evaluating and studying public education so as to consider how the importance and impact of communications in public alcohol and drug education could be enhanced.
