”Tos nyt oppii paljon, tai sellasii taitoja mitä tarvii sit myöhemminki elämässä”: 7.-luokkalaisten kokemuksia ilmiöoppimisesta alakoulussa hyvinvoinnin näkökulmasta
Synopsis
The article examines the experiences of well-being of 7th grade students in grades 4-6, when they studied in a flexible learning environment with three classroom teachers. Their studying was based on phenomenon-based learning, where teachers constructed four multidisciplinary units for each school year based on the Finnish curriculum. The research data consists of four group interviews, and the data was analyzed using theory-driven content analysis, specifically focusing on the ”opportunities for self-fulfillment” aspect of Konu’s well-being model.
Based on the results, phenomenon-based learning has its place in basic education, provided that subject-specific didactic perspectives are also considered. The students’ reflections emphasized the holistic nature of learning and the opportunity to make choices regarding tasks, learning tools, study location, or task order. In the co-teaching model, encouragement and support were available. According to the responses, this class of up to 70 students had become important to the students, and their memories of primary school were positive.
