Paperilta vai näytöltä? Lukiolaisten näkemyksiä painetuista ja digitaalisista oppikirjoista kielissä sekä historiassa ja yhteiskuntaopissa
Synopsis
This article examines upper secondary school students’ views on digital and printed materials in studying foreign languages and history and civics at school. The data were gathered via a Webropol questionnaire from three different schools in spring 2024. The students were given the link to the questionnaire through Wilma (communication application used in schools), and there were 333 respondents. The questionnaire included both multiple choice and open-ended questions. Quantitative data were analyzed using statistical methods, and answers to open-ended questions via content analysis. The results showed that the students’ preferences varied according to the subject and topic: in languages, students’ responses were more divided, and the combination of different materials was found to be the most useful. In history and civics, however, more students preferred printed materials to digital ones, although the digital materials had their supporters as well. The results show that students wish they could choose which type of materials to use, according to the subject matter as well as their own learning styles.
