Fernsehnachrichten in Deutschland und Finnland: Ein Vergleich ihrer Textsortenprofile
Synopsis
Television news continues to be one of the most important sources of information for people in Germany and Finland, and generally enjoys a high level of trust among the population. This applies above all, but not only, to public broadcasters. Both countries have a dual system of television providers. The study analyses 14 TV news programmes each from ARD, ZDF and RTL in Germany and from Yleisradio and MTV3 in Finland, dating from the end of January and the beginning of December 2023. After a brief
description of the television landscapes and the corpus, there follows a clarification of the concept of text type. Then the text-type profiles of the news from the five TV stations are analysed. Differences in the repertoire of text types are discussed, and the frequency and duration of the various text types used are compared. One interesting result is that in Finnish news, quotes in original sound and statements by decision-makers are given greater weight than in German TV news.
